General FAQs

Quick answers about KD-Clutter, what I do, and who I help.

What does KD-Clutter do?

I am a professional home organizing company that helps clients declutter, organize, and create functional systems in their homes. Services include hands-on organizing, decluttering, move-in and move-out support, downsizing assistance, and space planning.

Do you offer a free consultation?

Yes, the consultation is completely free. I block out 30 minutes to an hour to come see your space in person because I cannot give you an honest estimate without actually walking through your home. I will assess what we are working with, give you a realistic picture of what the project involves, and tell you what it will cost before we book anything. No pressure and no surprises.

What areas does KD-Clutter organize?

I organize kitchens, pantries, closets, bedrooms, bathrooms, garages, home offices, playrooms, laundry rooms, and entire homes. You can explore more on our Home Organization page.

How does professional organizing work?

A professional organizer works side by side with the client to sort belongings, reduce clutter, and create customized organizing systems that fit the client’s lifestyle and daily routines.

Who hires a professional organizer?

Busy parents, working professionals, families preparing to move, seniors downsizing, and anyone feeling overwhelmed by clutter hire me to simplify their space and reduce stress.

What is the difference between decluttering and organizing?

Decluttering is the process of deciding what stays in your home and what goes. Organizing is creating a functional system for what remains. You have to declutter before you organize or the system will not hold. I see this constantly with clients who have tried to skip ahead. The bins and the labels are not the problem. The volume of stuff underneath them is.

How do I know if I need to declutter or just organize?

If you have organized the same space more than once and it keeps reverting back to chaos, you need to declutter first. If your storage areas are always at capacity no matter how many containers you add, you need to declutter first. If you regularly cannot find things even though you have a system, same answer. Organizing a space that has too much stuff in it is like mopping a floor that is still covered in mud.

Where do I start when decluttering feels overwhelming?

Start with one small space that you can finish in a single session. A bathroom cabinet. One kitchen drawer. The surface of your entryway table. Finishing something creates momentum. The goal is not to do the whole house in one weekend. The goal is to prove to yourself that it is possible to make a decision and stick with it.

Do I need to buy bins and organizers before we start?

No, and I actually ask clients not to shop for storage before we work together. You do not know what you need until you know what is staying. I have seen people spend hundreds of dollars on containers that end up being the wrong size, the wrong style, or just completely unnecessary once we remove what should not have been there in the first place. Shop after the declutter, not before.

How long does a decluttering session take?

It depends on the space and the volume. I have a four-hour daily minimum because that is what it actually takes to make a meaningful dent and leave you with something finished. Rushing through a half-day project and leaving it incomplete does not help you. Some projects are done in one session. Some take several. I will give you an honest estimate after I see your space.

What happens to the stuff I decide to get rid of?

We donate what is in good condition, dispose of what is not, and I will help coordinate where things go so you are not left with a pile of bags sitting in your garage for three months. Getting it out of your house quickly matters. Items that sit in a donation pile have a way of working themselves back into your space.

Do you work with people who feel embarrassed about the state of their home?

Yes, and I want to be direct about this. I have been inside a lot of homes. I am not there to evaluate your life choices. I am there to help you get your space to a place that works for you. If you are dealing with something that feels beyond typical clutter, like a situation involving a loss, a major life transition, or years of accumulation, I approach those projects with care and without judgment. I lost a parent myself and I understand how emotionally layered these situations can be. You reached out. That is the hardest part.

Does KD-Clutter help with moving?

Yes. I offer move-in and move-out organizing services including pre-move decluttering, packing with purpose, unpacking, and setting up organized systems in the new home. Learn more on our Move Management page.

Is professional organizing worth it?

If you are ready to actually do something differently after I leave, yes it is absolutely worth it. Organizing is not a magic wand, it is a system. But if you are done fighting your house every day and ready for something to actually change, the investment pays for itself fast in time saved, things found, and sanity recovered.

How much does professional organizing cost?

My hourly rate runs between $80 and $120 depending on the complexity of the project. I have a four-hour daily minimum because I genuinely cannot make a meaningful difference in your space in less time than that. You only pay for the hours I actually work. If I estimate 10 hours and we finish in 8, you pay for 8. To get an accurate estimate for your specific space, book a free consultation and I will walk through your home and give you a real number.

Do I need to clean before my consultation?

Please do not clean up. I mean it. I need to see how your space actually functions day to day, not the version you cleaned for company. The real thing is what helps me build systems that actually work for your life.

Does KD-Clutter work with judgment-free support?

Yes. I am built around supportive, practical help for real homes and real lives. The goal is progress, not perfection.

What areas does KD-Clutter serve around Houston?

I serve Houston-area communities including Klein, Tomball, Hockley, The Woodlands, Spring, Cypress, Katy, Conroe, Humble, Magnolia, and the greater Houston area. Visit our Service Areas page for more.

Do you require a deposit to book?

Yes. A deposit is required to hold your spot on my calendar. When I book you for multiple days I am holding that time exclusively for you and turning away other clients. If something comes up and you cancel last minute, I cannot replace that income on short notice. The deposit protects both of us and it is standard practice for professional service providers. Think of it the same way you would a deposit with any contractor or service professional.

Is there a minimum number of hours I have to book?

Yes. I have a four-hour daily minimum. This is not to run up your bill. It is because I cannot make a meaningful difference in your space in less time than that. Four hours is what it takes to actually finish something and leave you with a system that works, not just a space that was shuffled around.
